Nowhere is our dedication to the contemplative path more manifest than at Metivta's High Holy Days services. Each year, we strive as a community to create a sacred space in which each participant can find his or her path to God and t'shuvah. With the traditional liturgy as a framework we use prayer, chant, meditation, teaching and zhikr, a symphony of chant, breath, and movement, to guide and carry us upward on our ten-day journey from repentance to forgiveness and return to God. Our guest Hazzan Joel Stern will be leading us in prayer along with our prayer leader, Evelyn Baran, and other members of our lay community. Rabbi Ivan Ickovits and Maggid Paul Wolff will be our darshanim during the holidays. Our Metivta teachers include Lyle Poncher, Perry Oretzky, Marilyn Zweifach, Gilla Nissan and Ida Unger. We are happy to announce that Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man, Metivta's Rabbi Emeritus, and his wife Nan Gefen, will be joining us for Rosh Hashanah services. Second Day Rosh Hashanah our Chant and Meditation service, followed by Torah and Shofar Services, will be led by Evelyn Baran and Lyle Poncher. All services will be held at the Olympic Collection, Los Angeles, CA. Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man's Teachings Book Project UpdateMany of us have been deeply touched by Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man, Metivta's Founder and Rabbi Emeritus, by all he has taught to us as individuals, as a community and as a unique and wise voice within the larger Jewish world. A project is underway to publish his teachings and to make them more accessible. Rabbi Omer-Man and Kristine McKenna, a widely published journalist along with the Metivta Board and other long time students of Rabbi Omer-Man's are working together to put Rabbi Omer-Man's teachings from audio archives into a book.
We are working to raise $150,000 with the goal of completing the book by the end of 2011. We have already raised $75,000 toward this project but we need everyone's help to complete this important project. To Donate: Jonathan Omer-Man Book Project Donation
